Prep the veggies beforehand. Clean and cut up the romaine lettuce; dice the tomatoes, onion, and avocado. Set aside.
In a skillet, over medium high heat add the ground beef. Optional: add a few onions & allow the meat to cook.
Stir the meat consistently, making sure to brown it and allow it to fully cook. The ground beef will produce its own fat, so once the meat is done- drain the excess fat/liquid.
Season the meat with taco seasoning, add water, and allow the liquid to come to a boil.
Stir consistently. Once the liquid is at a boil, lower the heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Allow the meat to fully cook.
Next, Prepare the salad bowl: Add the lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, onions, shredded cheese, and tortilla/Doritos chips.
Add any additional toppings you prefer, then add the cooked meat on top.
