Hot Honey Fried Shrimp Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 to 1 ½ Ib Shrimp
- ½ tsp Black Pepper
- ½ tsp Old Bay Garlic & Herb (Substitute: Salt or Cajun Seasoning)
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- Yellow Mustard (Add enough mustard to coat the shrimp)
- Hot Sauce (Add a Few squirts)
- Oil for frying (Vegetable, Canola, or Peanut Oil)
Flour Mixture: (Note: Seasoning the flour is optional)
- 2 to 3 Cups Flour
- 1 Tbsp Cornstarch
- ½ tsp Black Pepper
- ⅛ tsp Old Bay Garlic & Herb
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
Hot Honey Sauce:
- ¾ to 1 Cup Buffalo sauce
- 2 Tbsps Butter
- ½ cup Honey
- Optional: Pinch of Lemon pepper seasoning
Instructions
- Prep the shrimp beforehand: Peel & devein the shrimp. Clean the shrimp by soaking in a little vinegar & water, then rinse off under cold water. Pat dry with a paper towel.
- Add the cleaned shrimp to a medium bowl. Season with the pepper, old bay, garlic powder, yellow mustard, and hot sauce. Mix everything together & set aside.
- Prepare the flour: Mix the flour, cornstarch, pepper, old bay, garlic powder, & onion powder together.
- Note: Seasoning the flour is completely optional, you can just mix the flour and cornstarch together without seasoning it.
- Toss the shrimp into the flour and coat evenly. Allow the shrimp to rest for 5 to 10 minutes while the oil heats up.
- In a frying pan, add the oil and allow the oil to get hot or to 350°F.
- Add the breaded shrimp & fry for 3 to 5 minutes. Do not overcrowd the pan, so fry in batches if needed.
- Once the shrimp is thoroughly cooked. Drain the fried shrimp on paper towel or a wire rack pan.
- Prepare the hot honey sauce: Over medium heat- add some butter in a pan or skillet. Once the butter melts add the honey & buffalo sauce (The lemon pepper seasoning is optional). Mix everything together and allow the sauce to simmer for a few minutes. Do a taste test & adjust if needed.
- Toss the shrimp into the sauce. Pair with French fries & enjoy!
