Delicious, Elegant, & meaty fulfilling crab cakes to serve as an appetizer or main dish. So, no need to waste any money at your favorite seafood restaurant when you can make these delicious crab cakes at home. They make for the perfect appetizer, but they can be served as a main dish. Pair with rice pilaf or oven roasted potatoes and add a side of veggies such as asparagus. For this recipe you can use jumbo or lump crab meat and they’ll turn out perfect every time.

How to make the Best Crab Cakes:

  • It’s important to allow the crab cakes to set. Cover with parchment paper & Place in the fridge for 45 minutes to 1 hour. This is a crucial step & will prevent the crab cakes from falling apart.
  • Note that the cooking time will vary for everyone, usually 10 to 15 minutes should be enough at high temperatures. Place under the broiler to give it a little golden color and crisp.
  • Saltine crackers are a must! Don’t skip on the crackers or breadcrumbs. Plus, don’t forget to add an egg, – the eggs as well as the mayo serve as binders. Even if you don’t like the mayo, it will not overpower the flavor- you won’t taste it.
  • Feel free to customize your crab cakes. You can add diced shrimp or lobster. If you want to add more veggies- you can add diced shallot, onion, and/or green bell peppers.
  • Add a sauce to serve with your crab cakes. Some great options are remoulade sauce, cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and lemon aioli.
  • For this recipe, I kept it light when it comes to seasoning. But feel free to spice up the flavor even more- You can add garlic powder and a little pinch of smoked paprika.
  • When mixing all the ingredients together- gently stir to combine. You want to make sure you have nice chunks of crab meat to bite into.
  • Crab cakes are best served immediately, but it’s ok to have leftovers for the next day.
  • I recommend using fresh parsley for this recipe, but dried parsley will be fine.
  • Plus, we can’t forget to sprinkle a little Old Bay over these classic Maryland crab cakes.
