Delicious Hearty Cube Steak Recipe

A Classic dish filled with savory flavor and served in a delicious creamy brown gravy!

Kenya's Kitchen88

Cube steak is a childhood classic and favorite meal of mine. I was craving this dish the other day and decided to whip up a quick meal. This recipe can be made in under 35 minutes and it’s so fulfilling.

The cube steaks are so tender and mouthwatering. I served this delicious cube steak and onion gravy over some white rice. To make it a complete meal- just throw in a side of veggies to make sure you get your daily veggie intake. Some great vegetable side dishes are roasted carrots or green beans. Plus, honey cornbread or dinner rolls will make a great addition too! I threw in a sliced onion for this dish, but if you’re not a fan of onions – feel free to omit it. If you like mushrooms, you can add those instead to your creamy brown gravy.

To enhance the flavor of my gravy, I used low sodium beef broth instead of water. Plus, I threw in 1 packet of the Lipton Recipe Secrets Beefy Onion Dry Soup and Dip Mix. You don’t have to use the whole packet; you may start out with adding half a packet first and work your way up from there. Make any adjustments you need. But don’t skip out on these two ingredients for the gravy. These two ingredients take the flavor of the gravy up a notch. It’s so good and tastes so delicious. The gravy is amazing and if you throw in some fresh warm dinner rolls to dip in the gravy or just to soak up that great tasting flavor- it’ll be such a delight.

This cube steak recipe is so easy to follow and make. You can have a complete meal in under 35 to 40 minutes, especially if you plan ahead. This recipe is a great alternative from the traditional hamburger steaks, so if you want to switch things up in the kitchen- this recipe is awesome to try! This cube steak recipe is so delicious and comforting, it’s a fulfilling dish that everyone will enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 4 to 6 Cube steaks
  • 1 Tbsp Olive oil
  • ½ tsp Seasoned black pepper
  • ½ tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • ½ tsp Chili powder
  • 1 Small White Onion sliced
  • 2 Cups Low Sodium Beef Broth
  • ½ Cup Flour
  • 1 Packet Lipton Recipe Secrets Beefy Onion Dry Soup and Dip Mix
  • Splash of Half & Half

Instructions

  • Prep the meat beforehand. Drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the steaks. Season both sides of the meat with the spices and rub the seasonings into the meat. Allow the meat to marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  • In a medium bowl add the flour and the same seasonings. (Tip: There’s No need to measure the seasonings when adding to the flour; just sprinkle a little bit of each spice to season the flour.)
  • Mix the seasonings into the flour. Make sure to set aside a teaspoon or two of the seasoned flour for later (to season the gravy).
  • Next, coat each cube steak with the seasoned flour and set them aside.
  • Over medium high heat, drizzle some olive oil in a skillet or pan and allow the oil to get hot.
  • Add the cube steaks to the oil. Sear for 5 minutes on one side, then flip over and sear the other side for 5 minutes or until the steaks are a golden-brown color. Note: don’t overcrowd the pan, cook in batches if you need to.
  • Remove the steaks from the oil and make sure to leave a small amount of oil in the pan.
  • Stir in the seasoned flour to the remaining oil and allow the flour to dissolve.
  • Next, add the low sodium beef broth and stir everything together. Make sure to scrap up any bits that may be stuck to the pan.
  • Add in the Lipton beef onion mix, sliced onions, and a splash of half and half. Mix everything together and allow the liquid to come to a boil.
  • Add the cube steaks to the gravy and coat them with some of the gravy.
  • Cover the pan with a lid and allow the steaks to finish cooking (about 10 to 15 minutes).
  • The gravy will begin to thicken up, so keep an eye on the gravy and stir consistently.
  • Check for doneness and make sure the meat is cooked to your liking.
  • Serve over white rice or mashed potatoes and a side of veggies. Enjoy!
